Several months after retirement, Tom was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease). Tom earned his PhD. in English Literature from Columbia University, the same university where Lou Gehrig received a scholarship for football. Whereas Tom's muscles have weakened to a point where he is wheel-chair bound, his sharp mind and quick wit are still very much intact. Tom resides in Taos, New Mexico with his wife Victoria. |
